The frame has glass in the front so sorry about the little glare. Below are the words I chose to include in my "My Why":
I attended my first workshop in 1997 while I was employed at the University of Maine, with "Lisa" as our demonstrator. Lisa is no longer a Stampin' Up! demo but within the first few minutes of attending this workshop, I was hooked. As I explained in a previous post, I attended college as an Art Major and never completed my degree due to getting married and starting a family. All my life I have enjoyed any avenue of the art field. Stampin' Up to me is another way of expressing one's self through their art. Once this first workshop was completed, a group of about 6 of us decided to take turns having a workshop once a month and rotating on who was to earn the hostess benefits each month. We did this right at the University during our lunch hour. Lisa had us do one make and take while we ate lunch and then we placed our orders. Of course we only had an hour for lunch so we had to complete a quick workshop. We had a blast doing this.
Now that I am a demonstrator, I do have to mention that Lisa never tried to recruit and never discussed the benefits of becoming a demonstrator with us. I remember reading about it in the catalog. I'm not sure, thinking back, if any of us would have pursued being a demo anyway. Fast forward to 2005 when I went through a divorce after 21 years. I moved away to a different town and my then husband would not allow me to go back home and get my stampin' stuff or anything else for that matter! He changed the locks on the doors and I was not allowed in a home that I lived in for over 10 years. I lost touch with the stamping world for about 2 years and finally one day, he asked my kids to bring me my stash. Do you know what it feels like to go through boxes of stampin' stuff that you haven't seen for that long! It was just like Christmas all over again! I have to admit that this hooked me all over again. Of course I had no demo to order from so I'll have to admit that I started purchasing Stampin' Up! through ebay. I finally found a demo by coming across her blog one day, ordered a catalog and in the process, she sent me an assortment of information with my catalog. At the time I was not interested in becoming a demo. I visited her blog quite often and she is a business demo and almost daily, had posts about becoming a demo. One day I took the plunge, I emailed her questions about becoming a demo and she emailed me back about all the benefits. I decided to give it a try.
In February 2009 I ordered my kit (with butterflies in my stomach) and received my kit in March 2009. Of course I started out as a hobby demo because early in the spring, we were going to be in the process of building a new home and shop for our business (we are self-employed). By October 2009, when most of our house and shop was completed, I decided I was ready to make a go of this business. I contacted my husband's daughter to see if she would be interested in hosting a workshop for me to get things going. It worked! Thanks so much Heidi!! The group of girls she invited have all taken turns once a month, hostessing workshops in my home. I also attended a few craft fairs and successfully booked workshops from these craft fairs. I have not pushed hard and would like to turn this into a full-fledged business. I have more than exceeded my minumums each quarter and want to go even further with this business. I enjoy meeting new people and I enjoy demonstrating products, techniques and cards.
If you have ever been interested in starting a new career, earning extra money, getting a discount on products, meeting new people, or just being a hobby demo........PLEASE contact me today for information on all the benefits. I would love to explain them to you and I would love to show you the ropes!
