Wacky Wednesday-My 1st Diaper Cake!

I have a friend who is going to be a "Grammy" for the first time in a few months. (Congrats Jocelyn)! I received a baby shower invite to the baby shower recently which is being held this up-coming weekend. So my inspiration for today's project was found using the invite:

How cute and simple this invitation is. I've always wanted to attempt a diaper cake so I plunged in and this is what my end result is:

All I have left to do is to wrap it all up in clear wrap. I have a stamping class the same morning as the baby shower and then Dave and I have a wedding to attend so I am not able to attend the shower but will be dropping off the gift this week.

Let's start out with the card:

I am sorry that I am using a retired stamp set today but Dapper Dad was such a perfect set to use to replicate the bow-tie from the invite. I also combined a few other stamp sets to complete the card that I will list for you below. I started out stamping the baby hand images on the background layer of Perfect Plum Cardstock with VersaMark Ink and embossing with Clear Embossing Powder with my Heat Tool. The background shines and is so pretty:

I hand-cut the bow-tie and glued it in place using Stampin' Dimensionals. The ink I used was Pear Pizzazz on Whisper White Cardstock.

For the sentiment I stamped the frame first and cut out the center using the Large Oval Punch, also using Pear Pizzazz Ink on Whisper White Cardstock and cut with the Decorative Label Punch.

I stamped the word "Baby" and cut it slim with my paper cutter and then used a 1" Circle Punch to round the ends. I glued it on with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The word "boy" was stamped and cut out with the 1" Circle Punch and tucked under the "Baby".

I added Rhinestone Jewels and a triple bow made from White Baker's Twine:

 

Now for the "Diaper Cake":

 

I used a lace-shaped cardboard cake holder for the base that you can find in any cake decorating section of a department store. For the diapers, I used the smallest size, rolled them and secured a rubber band around each one. Stack them side-by-side until you are happy with the result. I wanted some of the lace cardboard peeking so I ended my diapers about an inch from the edge.

I made belly bands to go around both stacks of diapers to hide the rubber bands and added ribbon and a ton of hand-cut bows glued in place with Stampin' Dimensionals. Below is the topper I made:

I used the largest circle from the Circles Collection Framelits Dies, which happens to be scallop for the outside layer. I glued 2 of them back to back to a wooden skewer. The skewer slides right into the center of the diapers:

Next, all you need are small baby items to tuck here and there where you can find a space to squeeze them into. The items I chose are all "needed" items for a first time mom, I also coordinated the colors of the items to stick with the green & purple theme:

I hope you liked my very first diaper cake and matching card. I purchased some clear wrap this morning so I'm off to get it all wrapped and delivered!
