I've received quite a few inquiries lately on the directions for Shimmer Paint and what to do with it. As many of you recall in our workshops, I demonstrated different ways to incorporate this paint into your projects.

Our shimmer paint adds a vibrant dimension that enhances the look of anything without actually changing its basic appearance. It's pigment ink, so you can do almost anything with it that you can do with ink—you can stamp with it, cover an entire section of card stock or paper with it, or apply it over a stamped image or Rub-On. Apply it with a sponge dauber directly to a stamp or paper.

Listed below are all of the Shimmer Paint products:

Frost White Shimmer Paint-Item #116854

Platinum Shimmer Paint-Item #116807

Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint-Item #116806

Sponge Daubers-Item #102892

Sponge daubers and stamping sponges make a great team for sponging any project. Daubers slip right onto your finger, giving you greater application control. And with 12 in a package, you can have one for all the colors you use frequently. Small sponges attached to plastic tubes. The sponge daubers are the perfect size for the shimmer paint containers as they fit right into the lid or into the container.

Now on to our different uses of the Shimmer Paint:

Shimmer Paint as a spray.
The 2 cards below show how I used the Shimmer Paint as a Shimmer Mist Spray. On the first card, I used the spray on the whole card after it was completed:

On the second card, I used my Shimmer Mist Spray on the white layer. It's hard to see on the picture but the card just shimmers with a glittery look to it. If you click on the pictures to enlarge, you can see more detail:

Directions for Shimmer Mist Spray:
You will need a small travel size spray bottle. I purchased mine at WalMart in the travel size items aisle, or you can use one that you have on hand. The spray bottle from the Stampin' Mist is also a good size to use.
  1. Add 1 oz. of 70% rubbing alcohol. When this first came out as a recipe, we were told to use 90% alcohol but found out later that as it sits, the shimmer mist spray will clump up. There are no problems with the 70% alcohol.
  2. Add 10 drops of your favorite Shimmer Paint. When spraying cards my favorite is the Champagne Mist. I used a small eyedropper to add the paint. The one oz. mixture will go a long ways but if you'd like to mix more, just add 10 drops per 1 oz. of alcohol.
  3. Shake the bottle to mix.
  4. Spray desired piece of cardstock. Spray in layers, as they dry, until you've reached the desired glitter look that you want. Don't be alarmed, as you spray, the cardstock will roll but will flatten as it dries.

Notes:
*You can also add a drop of re-inker to create colored shimmer mist spray.

Shimmer Paint to stencil:

As you will notice on all of these pictures, I used Stampin' Up! Decor Stencils on all of my projects. You can either dip the sponge right into the container or as you shake your bottle, you will notice that some of the paint stays in the lid. You can also dip your sponge right into the lid. The sponges are the perfect size for these bottles.
Dab your sponge onto the stencils to create your designs. Remove stencils and you will see the dimension this paint creates and how "fast drying" they are.
On these samples, I used the Platinum Shimmer Paint. You can also use the Frost White.

Direct to Paper.

You can add your Shimmer Paint directly to paper also by dipping your sponge dauber into the paint and highlighting raised edges. View the samples below. I show all three Shimmer Paints:

Platinum

Frost White

Champagne Mist
I lightly rubbed a thin coat of paint to each panel and I also highlighted the edges.

Shimmer Paint directly to stamps.

These are the items I use to mix my own shimmer paint in color. You will need Stamp Reinkers, Shimmer Paint, a toothpick and a painters palette. You can also use the lid of a container but I find the painters palette holds the paint nicely.
The color sample below shows you the difference in stamped with ink only, on bottom row and top row shows the ink mixed with the shimmer paint and then stamped:

This is a bird I stamped using Tempting Turquoise ink refill and Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint:

This is a card we made at one of my workshops. Notice that the cut-out butterfly at the top has been inked in Old Olive ink mixed with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint. The second picture really shows the detail:

This is the detail, WOW:

Use equal amount of drops of your favorite Shimmer Mist Paint and your chosen color of reinker. As I stated, this sample used Old Olive ink refill and Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint. I used my toothpick to mix the ink and shimmer paint, and using my sponge dauber, dabbed the paint directly to my stamp and stamped my image. Again, this will dry quite quickly.
